Hello Parents,
El Dorado Elementary has a Family Specialist and that's me!!! My name is Ester Morales, I have been in this position for 4 years with the North East Independent School District. If you are asking yourself what is a Family Specialist and what do they do, please read on.
As a Family Specialist, I act as a liaison between the school, the family, and the community in any way that will facilitate student success. I consult with administrators, teachers, support staff, and parents regarding social and family issues. Part of my duties include linking community agencies with families who are in need of clothing, food, dental/health care needs, and family counseling.
Parents have the opportunity to join our Parent Academy each year in September. This program offers parents an opportunity to attend classes in computers, health, nutrition, and learn how to help their children at home with reading, math, and/or science. The Parent Academy is partnered with San Antonio College and helps parents earn continuing education units. Each parent member must complete 8 classes by April to earn credit.
