Adventures in Science!

Welcome to Bush Middle School~the Best in the West! Before the year begins, I want to let you know what we will be studying during the first quarter. Also~important information!! Each student is issued a textbook to TAKE HOME for the year.  This is really important so that students have a resource at home for specific topics we wil be studying.  Quite often, these books spend the year in the locker!!  I say, take it home, put it under the bed, and it will be there when you need it! So, here we go with a very general list.

Please note #1 !  Lab safety is first and foremost in order for us to have a safe and productive year.

 1. Safety at all times in the labs
2. Lab protocols that will be repeated and refined throughout the year
3. Experimental design and inquiry
4. Independent science projects
5. Chemistry

It is now January 8, 2008!! The year is almost half over, and the kids have only five months left to be 8th graders and to be coddled a little bit!  We have just completed our unit on heredity, taken our semester test and are now on our way to the study of the environment.  Once again, we are looking at the interactions within our various environments.  This is reminiscent of our work with the interactions of systems within our bodies.  We have lots of different activities planned and look forward to learning more about space we live in and how we can each take care for better tomorrows.

I have also compiled a list of supplies that the students will need throughout the year.  They are: markers, map colors,  ruler, pens, pencils, paper, an INEXPENSIVE calculator for use in data collection, an eraser, whiteboard markers, construction paper, scissors, glue sticks and a highlighter~quite often the girls (or boys) will need scrunchies to keep their hair  back during labs.  I usually have rubberbands, but they may want to have their own tie backs! We think a good time shall be had by all! Again, welcome to Bush Middle School!
