What is Pre-AP World Geography?

Pre-AP World Geography covers the same material as Regular Geography, but in more depth, thus requiring the course to move at a more rapid pace. Critical Thinking Skills and Problem Solving are stressed. Students are expected to be self-motivated and read the text outside of class. Due to the nature of this class, there will be numerous projects which help the students both learn basic principals as well as demonstrate what they have learned. This course also prepares the student for Social Studies AP classes which they may wish to enroll in the years to follow. Students are expected to take a mature approach to learning with regular attendance, on time to class, and remaining focused during instruction.

We will be studying the world through the Five Themes of Geography: Location, Place, Human-Environment Interaction, Movement, and Region.

Objective & Expectations

In the study of World Geography, we will view the world through the five themes of Geography: location, place, human/environment interaction, movement, and region.

All states and capitols of the United States by week #10.
Canadian Provinces by week #11.

Projects

This class includes several projects through out the year. Pre-AP students will do most of their project work outside of class. These projects will be Nine Week and Semester Projects and will weigh heavily on their final grade. Failure to complete any project can have a great impact on the student's success in this class. Projects completed on a computer can be brought on a Disc, CD, or Jump Drive but it must be scanned for any virus before it can be viewed. Projects can also be emailed to me, but please allow 2 days before the due date to insure it's arrival and that it can be opened successfully.
